“I usually have no idea what I'm doing... Actually I always have no idea what I'm doing.”
The above quote describes Scott in a nutshell. He rarely knows what he’s doing, but to give Scott credit, he’s only sixteen. It’s doubtful most kids Scott's age would confidently know what to do if faced with the same situations he has to deal with.
Most people think Scott isn’t the brightest crayon in the Crayola box, but mostly he's just naive and perhaps a little slow on the uptake. A good example of this is when Scott is suddenly good at lacrosse thanks to his werewolf abilities and a suspicious Jackson asks him where he gets his "juice" from. Jackson is talking about steroids, but at first Scott actually thinks he’s talking about juice you get from the grocery store (bless him). The fact that Scott's mom begs his teacher for a makeup test in Chemistry that Scott doesn’t even know he missed, shows how distracted he is. It comes as no surprise that he’s at risk of being held back a year, which is down to him struggling to balance school, work, relationships and being a werewolf.
His girlfriend Allison is his greatest strength but also his biggest weakness. When Scott first becomes a werewolf he barely has any control of shifting from human state to werewolf state, making him at serious risk of hurting or killing someone, even his best friend. It’s possible for werewolves to find an anchor and bind themselves to it to keep them under control, since an increased heart rate can trigger transformations. Scott's anchor is Allison. It's her presence or thinking about her that calms him down. She is Scott's anchor to humanity.
Scott's relationship with Allison is the definition of "puppy love". He's almost infatuated with her in a way, which isn’t surprising for someone his age, to the point where her name is both his username and password on his computer. Scott can't afford to be distracted when he has important, life-threatening matters that demand his full attention. Unfortunately Allison is his biggest distraction. This is bad news for Stiles as well as his grades. One time Stiles needs to get hold of Scott about something important, Scott is unreachable with his phone off (and when his phone is on Scott doesn't tend to answer it, usually because he's with Allison). He skips school with Allison (which he shouldn’t even be doing when he’s failing classes) to cheer her up on her birthday, showing what a good heart he has and his tendency to put Allison first.
As well as Allison, Stiles is an important part of Scott’s life. He’s the Robin to Scott’s Batman, as much as Stiles would rather this wasn’t the case (at least not all the time). Scott would probably be dead a long time ago if it wasn’t for Stiles helping him out during his transition into "wolvelihood". It does seem like Scott takes Stiles for granted and doesn’t tell him enough - or at all - how lucky he is to have a friend like him, who has stuck with him from the very beginning of him being bitten. That being said, if Stiles hadn't made Scott go with him to the woods to look for half a dead body, Scott probably never would have been bitten in the first place. But does Scott blame Stiles at all for his misfortune? Not once. I think this says a lot about the kind of person he is. He'd never deliberately make someone feel guilty or make them feel like they owe him anything.
Trust is important to Scott. He loses his temper with Allison at a rave when he thinks she doesn’t trust him by telling her father vital information that jeopardizes his plan to capture the Kanima. He tells Derek that the problem is nobody trusts anyone and he doesn't feel like he can trust Derek when it's obvious Derek doesn't tell him everything. Despite Scott’s feelings on trust, he’s capable of double-crossing if it means protecting someone he cares about. He joins Derek’s pack and spies on him for Allison's grandfather, but only because he will hurt his mother if Scott doesn’t. His actions make him somewhat of a hypocrite, but if he has to betray the Alpha to keep his mother alive and safe, so be it.
Scott will respond violently when his friends are in danger, especially if it’s Allison, as seen when Scott fights Jackson in the school locker room after sensing Allison has been scared by him. He's a protective person who wants to keep everyone safe. Unrealistically he can’t and Stiles tells him this, but Scott replies that he has to. He even tries to protect Jackson who has never been particularly nice to him. Scott has a strong sense of right and wrong. He believes killing Jackson would be wrong and he won't allow it because Jackson isn't aware of what he's doing (murdering people). He's innocent and Scott won't stand back and watch someone innoccent die. A good example of this is when he wants to help an Omega from being killed by hunters, but unfortunately Derek holds him back and makes him watch the Omega get cut in half.
Scott has shown he cares about practically everyone, even people he's fought with, such as Isaac, a young werewolf turned by Derek. Scott tells Isaac to be careful when drugging Jackson, and Isaac figures he means be careful about hurting Jackson. Scott tells Issac he was actually talking about him, not wanting Isaac to get hurt. In return Isaac trusts him and even sticks around rather than running away with the other betas because of Scott's influence. It’s moments like this that show Scott’s leadership qualities, qualities that would make him a good Alpha. Derek even says he's the Alpha of his own pack (not of werewolves but of humans, his best friend and girlfriend). He also has a stubborn side, refusing to apologize to Allison after their fall out at the rave, even though he was wrong to snap at her.
Kind and friendly can usually describe Scott, though he has acted very out of character when a full moon is approaching, behaving cruelly. The best example of this is when he kisses Lydia, despite knowing that Stiles has been in love with her since the third grade, but he isn't himself when this takes place. Thankfully he’s got better at controlling himself during that time of the month. Scott also isn’t afraid to take risks, particularly when Allison is involved. The fact that he’s even in a relationship with her is a dangerous risk itself. Despite Allison’s father threatening Scott with a gun in his face, it’s not enough to scare him off and he continues to see her in secret. This either shows how brave, stupid or in love with Allison he is. In fact, it’s probably a combination of all three.
